Candy Cane Wreath

Look at this fun Candy Cane Wreath I made!

I found this fun Candy Cane Wreath from Beverly's while browsing Pinterest.  I thought this would make a great neighbor gift.

The one on Beverly's used hot clue to secure everything together but I wanted the candy canes to still be edible so I knew I would have to make some changes.  I wasn't quite sure what I was going to have to do so I just started and made changes along the way.

I knew I would need some candy canes

and some curling ribbon.

I started by pairing the candy canes together and tying them with the curling ribbon.

Since I wasn't using hot glue my first thought was to have a sturdy card stock ring behind the canes to keep the wreath a little more solid.  I still wanted he whole to show so I cut a circle out of the center.

I used lots and lots of glue dots to secure the candy canes to the card stock ring.

But with the weight of all the candy canes it wasn't sturdy at all so I knew I would need to put a ring on the front as well.  But this time I decided not to cut the center out and just do a decorative something or other on the front piece.

I decided to do a layered lollie flower.  They are really pretty simple to make and are very pretty.  For the bottom lollie I used 2 strips of  paper that measured 5 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches and scored every 1/4 inch.  For the second layer lollie I used 1 strip of paper that measured 7 x 1 1/2 inches and scored every 1/4 inch.

After it is scored accordion fold the strip(s) of paper and connect the ends with glue.

The next step is kind of tricky and I couldn't hold it down, glue and take pictures at the same time so use your imagination :)  But you basically squish together and pull the edges out and then once they are flat you secure with hot glue and a paper circle.  This is what they looked like layered together.

I thought it turned out pretty cute, and with a layer of card stock on the front and back the wreath was much more secure and could easily be hung and keep shape.

I am excited to give it to my friend and I hope she enjoys it!
